1871 new york militia rolling block????

guys just look at the blocks back side and you will see where the hammer rides the block, this occurs when the block is full opened, click, then when you close it it slips off the block and into the half cock.

update: well got the barrel cleaned out real good and so i have been measuring the barrels bore.
the bore is very tight for a military rifle. i still have some loads from my shiloh sharps days with the bullets sized to .459" the nose section of a 457125 will not go into the bore.
the bore has 5 lands and it measures best i can measure it is .445" and the groove is .449"
i have some .451" bullets for my white muzzleloader and it was pretty tight getting it thru the bore.
it scrubbed the outer surface of the driving bands and left very sharp land grooves in it.
so what does this tell me about this rifle??? any info would be appriciated.

Hi There,

I read that the city of Buffalo bought some rolling blocks
that were of the same pattern as the New York State Militia
except for being in 45/70. I believe they were stamped on
the stock under the butt plate with initials (something like
"B.C.G." for Buffalo City Guard). The tang markings were
same as the New York models of the second contract (ending
with "MARCH 18th 1874").

The rolling block rifle you have pictured is indeed one of 50 ordered by CoD Buffalo City Guard in 1883. At present, I am the guardian of the rifle which was the genesis of this order. On April 30th 1883 a Remington rolling block rifle was presented to first sgt. Daniel N Milley by Gen. Adrian R.Root commmanding CoD Buffalo City Guards as acknowledgment of faithful service. It was of the NYNG pattern chambered for the .45-70 cartridge, nickel plated and bearing engraved silver plates on the obverse and reverse of the butt stock. It was so will liked by the members of the Co. that they authorized the purchase of fifty similar rifle. (see attached)
