722 problem

I just got my first 722, a very early one in the 38XXX serial range in 300 Savage.

I'm looking forward to giving it a good inspection, but have sort of an embarassing question. How do you remove the bolt?

I'm familiar with various bolt releases on the Rem 788, Winchester 70's and Mausers, but this one has me stumped!

Ok, Ok, I just found it flush on the underside of the receiver at the trigger... different than I've ever seen.

One other question... this rifle is in absolutely awesome condition (probably 95% plus) except it has had the butt plate replaced with a pad.

Question #2: what should the LOP be for the stock in uncut configuration? (presently mine is 12.75 to end of wood)
Question #3: is the 722 butt the same as the 721 (I need to search for a replacement).
