Dob on Model 241 Speedmaster

Post by Redberens »

Hello. I am brand new to this site, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the date of manufacture can be established by the serial number? I just picked up an old model 241 in .22 Short and was curious how old it is.

This is a terrific little gun. I'd seen Brownings similar to this, but never a Remington.

Also, does anyone know of any online manuals or sites that could show me how to take it down for cleaning? Thank you, Red.

Well now I feel like an idiot. I saw the sticky thread, but thought it was just about the 7 series guns. If my little Speedmaster follows the same suite, then the barrel markings, 'TT' show it was made in 1948.

1948 is right. If you acknowledge feeling like an idiot, you most certainly aren't one. I use that defense all the time.

Had a 241 in short and am sorry I sold it. Try CCI pistol match. All you will hear is the action cycling about like a cap pistol without caps.

I called Remington when I got mine and they graciously Xeroxed me a saleman's brochure that was pretty informative. Had a cartoon character delivering his spiel. "So easy to clean. Just pull out the action and swish it around in a bucket of gasoline!" Well, wouldn't try that today....

Also, on AuctionArms.com there's always someone selling a repro manual for about ten or fifteen dollars.

Hope your's is as much fun as mine was.
