700 Carbine 6mm Rem Mag

Post by rgr4hire »

I have a Model 700 Carbine 6MM REM MAG that is a factory blem from early 1963. Any idea how many of these have surfaced?

What makes it a factory blem? Supposedly none made it from the factory without the "MAG" being "XXX"ed out.

The Blem is the MAG being X'd over, since the 244 caliber was never really given that name.

Between 2 and 3 hundred left the factory marked as such. A rare bird, one of the rarest 700s released to the public.

Yeah I had an ieda of the total number, but has anyone heard anything about the breakdown between BDL, ADL, Carbine Length, and standard length?

I took a quick look in John Lacy's book "The Remington 700" on your topic. John indicates that the total number was 200 but writes that a look of the block of serial numbers on observed rifles might indicate up to 700. I know John has been conducting more research since his first book with the purpose of writing another. I would say the chances of finding a break-down of models by serial numbers and amounts is unlikely. We might have to wait untill John's next book.
