Before last friday, I had never heard of the Remington model 12. I went to a local gunstore that has used rifles out on a rack so you can pick them up and examine them.
They had two mod 12's, both of them A models. I picked one of them up and it was like magic. Slim, trim, well balanced. The action was as slick and smooth as anything I had ever felt. In my minds eye, I could see squirrels falling by the dozen. I did not buy the gun right then. I went home and got on the internet and did some research, told myself I did not need another gun and went to bed.
Saturday comes, and I am compelled to go by this gun. I have never had that happen before. I picked the best looking one of the two they had. My serial number is 242853 the other guns was in the 333xxx range. It had been worked hard and looked it. My gun still has a lot of blueing left and the wood looks pretty good. I think it was made in 1913. The previous owner of this gun took very good care of it. I see more of these in my future, plus a model 121 if I can find one. Man, the history this thing has seen makes me wonder about the previous owner or owners.
Come September it will be in the woods with me where it apparently belongs.
Thanks for reading this rather long story.
