I'm new here, so please bear with me if I am posting incorrectly.
I have a New Model revolver. I believe it is a Navy Cartridge Conversion.
Markings on barrel top: "Patented Sept 14, 1858"
"E Remington & Son Ilion, New York USA"
"New Model"
Nickel plated frame, Brass Trigger Strap, 7-1/2" octagonal barrel
Serial Number? under barrel is 41570 with the number 980 above it. No other markings found. It has two different "ejector" levers?
I don't seem to see much about Nickel Plated ones. The serial number appears to indicate this one was produced in the late 1870's or early 1880's.
I found a reference in one book to 639 Nickel Plated Models that were purchased by the govt in 1883 for use of Indian Police on western reservations. Could this be one of those? If so, is it something "special"?
I now have three Remington pistols, so I suppose I have the beginnings of a "collection" and need to give them provenance.
**oops, I just corrected this...apparently it is not called a Model 1875..just a New Model.
