Hi guys,
New member from the U.K.
I have just purchased a nice condition (IMHO) N.M.A., the serial number is 29070.
The only other marks I can find are a "T" on the barrel and a strange looking "P" (P with a base line, like a P and L combined) on the trigger guard. The cylinger has the last 4 numbers of the serial number stamped on the ratchet face.
The barrel has a cone shaped front sight dovetailed into it.
If anyone can provide a date of manufacture or any other info on the pistol it would be greatly appreciated.
Les

Re: New member, N.M.A. questions
Hello Les,
Your revolver was manufactured in July of 1863. The T on the barrel and other letters on the trigger guard are inspection marks indicating the revolver was probably purchased by the Ordnance Department. There would have also been a cartouche on the left grip. Yours has no cartouche because the grips are not the original Remington grips. The barrel should also have a two or three line address stamped on the top flat. The cone front sight is the early one, which was used on the Beals and Elliot models and later changed to a pinched type sight. The cylinders are not normally marked unless some hand fitting was required for proper operation. The marking was done to be able to match the cylinder to the frame once the blue finish was applied to the parts. There are no records of to which military unit the revolvers were issued.
I hope this helps,
Bill
