Need info on 1894 A grade 2 barrel set
I stumbled onto this Forum while researching an 1894 shotgun that I just purchased. Looks like a very knowledgable group of gun nuts like myself! I think that I have a good find , a late 1910 shotgun , with a 26 & 28 (2 barrel set) both matching rest of shotgun. It looks to be a small frame 12 gauge A with extractors and RF barrels, now the interesting part is it came with a wooden case, with no padding, and looks plain but customized for the set. The gentleman that I bought if from picked it up in New York. I was thinking it may be a salesman sample kit because the barrel that the forearm does not attach to is almost brand new , and the rest of the gun while excellent show some handling wear. It also seems like it was not fired hardly? It also has a red vented pad? Was this ever offered? Is it a unique set?
Anyway, I look forward to learning from you guys !

Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set
interesting -- while several 2 barrel sets are known I'm not sure any are the lowly A grade.
If you could provide the S/N and the pellet count stamping on each barrel that would surely help.
Question - do both barrels appears to be original to the gun?

Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set
We need to see several good pictures of the gun, including the barrel flats of both sets of barrels and the watertable of the receiver. There were no vented recoil pads being made during the time frame the Remington Hammerless Double was being manufactured. About the only recoil pad being offered during the 1894 to 1910 time period was the Silvers, and they are occasionally found on the higher grade Remington Hammerless Doubles --

Your 1894 has been restock and recoil pad. Second set of barrels have been added later if serial numbers match gun and everything fits right and tight the gun was sent back to Remington the second set of barrels were add. I have two Remington doubles with two barrel set a 1900 it was sent back to Remington and second set barrels add with serial number to gun. The other gun is a 1894 B grade with two sets of barrels ordered with the gun new. The barrels are number 1 and 2 under the serial number both guns are picture in Remington Double Book page 137.
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
The serial numbers do match both barrels and receiver / trigger guard and both barrels are extremely tight! firing pins are exactly 1 inch apart does that make it a small frame? I think it will serve well on my next quail hunt!
By the way any idea why the front lug on the 26 inch barrel set has 4 digits and all others are 3 digits? Could the extra digit which is a 1 mean 1st barrel set? Also I thought the stock may be refinished as it is a lighter color than the forearm, but how would you know if it's been restocked?

The stamped S/N for the stock will be found under the trigger guard tang.

Because that stock doesn't look like a 1909-10 vintage Model 1900 stock, or any other Remington hammerless double stock for that matter.but how would you know if it's been restocked?
As for the serial number stamped in the wood under the trigger guard, its absence might mean something, but I have lots of sets of stamps, so it being there doesn't mean as much!!
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
Thanks for the info ! Looks like it's not very collectible, so I will not feel bad taking it in the field. just as a side note, I went to a gun show in Greensboro Today and never have I seen so many Elsie's, Foxes, Parker's and Winchesters, several 20 gauges and the prices were pretty good! I did not see one 1900 or 1894. Don't know if that's good or bad, but the Remington's were missing among the old American doubles.
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
Hi The other day I was not able to see the pictures but today I can. Yes the buttstock is a replacement. The comb is not correct for the 1894. Checkering is not correct but close. Yes it is a small frame gun. If firing pin holes are one inch apart (center to center of the holes) also look under the rib extension if it is V shaped it is a small frame. Terry
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
Thanks Terry, it is v shaped. I appreciate the help, Art
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
You haven't asked but the chokes on the barrel stamped 319 and 306(?) are 62 & 60% while the barrel stamped 358 and (unreadable) is 70% or full
To determine choke, Remington used a load of 1 1/4 of #8 shot fired at a 30" circle from 40 yards. A 1 1/4 oz load contained 511 pellets so 319/511 = 62%

Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
The unreadable second barrel I think is 383 - 75% with a (1) in front of it , not sure if it makes sense as this is the 26 inch barrel. The 358 has MOD stamped under it? I think (hope someone may know) that the (1) in front of 383 is indicating the first barrel of the two barrel set and maybe this A grade was shipped with two barrels instead of the shotgun being sent back for a second barrel? This is a very late 1910 gun so I am thing sending it back might not have been possible.
Re: Need info on 1894 two barrel set-photos added
My 1900 was sent back to Reminton after 1911 second set of barrels added
