Model 7 tigger adjustment

I recently purchased a Rem Model 7 in .308. Trigger pull measures 9-10 lbs. I know about the 3 adjustments on the factory trigger(weight,travel, and sear engagement). I have two questions: Can I just use the weight screw to lighten pull(and not mess with the other two)? Also, what is the easiest way to remove the shellac-looking substance covering the adj. screws? Any help would be appreciated. Phil

I always find it best to cock the action and then back off the sear engagement screw until the action fires and then turn it back a half rotation, but you should be able to adjust the weight of pull without touching the others.
I do like to adjust mine so that there is no travel and a very crisp 1.5lb let off.
As to the sealer well it has always just come off itself when I have adjusted my triggers.
