Length of 870 Wingmaster barrel from serial number

I'm trying to find the length of a 1954 870 Wingmaster (12 ga, 2-3/4) from muzzle to trigger but don't know if it was a 28" or 30" barrel. I have the serial number (300894V) but Remington told me they can't look up original barrel length from the serial number. Is that true?

That's not how you measure a barrel in the first place. It would be measured (with the barrel removed from the gun) from the muzzle to the point where the shell head would be flush when inserted into the chamber......not including the extension that fits into the action. And, definitely not to the trigger.
