I am away from home and looking at a model 1894 CE 12 gauge. Serial number 1248xx.
Can anyone help me with an approx year of production?

Thank you dieNusse1.
BTW, Just wondering what some of the regulars here think.....this is a very nice but not great CE with Damascus barrels cut to 26". With uncut barrels I have a good sense of what the price range should be. Any thoughts on how big the discount should be for the cut barrels?
I'm still wrestling with what I'm going to hunt with a 26" 12 gauge choked cylinder and cylinder.

LOL, Maybe that's what I need to make it a more regular occurrence. Typically I just get frustrated shooting my 30" Full and full or Full and Mod barrels. I'm a hunter who should spend more time on the range.Researcher wrote:Should be great on the skeet field.I'm still wrestling with what I'm going to hunt with a 26" 12 gauge choked cylinder and cylinder.

Canvasback,
Are they measured Cyl/Cyl or are they stated Cyl/Cyl because it is obvious that they have been cut?
Some of the 1894's had quite long choke tapers. My 10 ga CEO is right at 28" and cut, but throws wonderful Modified and Improved Modified patterns with short 10 reloads in modern plastic wads and hard shot.

FG, They are listed at Cyl/Cyl and I suspect that is just because they have been cut, given the type of info in the rest of the ad. But you raise a very good point I hadn't thought of.
Re: Help dating an 1894 CE
My 1894 B grade starts the choke 5 1/2" back in. My other 1894s are about the same.
Re: Help dating an 1894 CE
Some of my model 1894 gun's the choke starts 6 in. back. This is better than a 3in. long choke. in a tight choked gun. Terry
