hi there
i well i recently got my c&r, so i made a 1st purchase of a remington 22 pump, ( i guess its a model 12?)it does not have a model number on it , i found only a serial number reading: 34283* with an RW stamped above it, i found the same numbers inside when i broke it down, it has a rear site that has a bar with a slot in it that seats a piece that looks like a lizards back--3 little humps and undeneath it sits a piece that raises or lowers the site, behind the site on the barrel is stamped: REMINGTON , TRADE MARK , 22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE, also the list of PATENT dates stamped on thE barrel RANGING FROM JAN 5 1909-APRIL 15 1912 there is one other mark on the gun--on the slide right behind the rear of the front wood grip is a "P" stamped in the bar, the rifle is in "good" condition, a round barrel -22 inch , the rear buttstock( no pistol grip -flat rear) is in good shape but has a VERY dark black stain of oil from handling, very much near the rear of the trigger, and along the bottom, can you tell me why it would have so much "hand" wear? and what year was it made? WHATS THE VALUE? any other info too...
your insite is very much appreciated
identify a rem model 12? please help
You have a Model 12A Remington 22 rifle made in 1915. We do not evaluate guns since we can not handle and view them. I believe the stain you refer to is from the previous owner oiling the inside of the receiver and then storing the gun in an upright position causing the excess oil to drain down into the stock and stain it.
