Hi
I have scratched my head for a while now over a New Model Navy that I picked up some time ago.
It's in quite good condition, but it has a "wrong" serial number. It has the serial number 7 in all the right places. No serial on cylinder just a K.
Also the barrel is a bit shorter than normal, 6,5 inches.
The only reference to a similar gun that I have come across is from an old "The Buletin Of the American Society of Arms Collectors" from 1961. There it is referenced to an NMN with serial 12.
http://americansocietyofarmscollectors. ... Gerber.pdf page 4-16.
Anyone know anything about this or hava a similar gun?
Best regards

Re: Remington New Model Navy low serial.
Eskil,
In his book on Remington Army and Navy Revolvers Donald Ware writes about exceptions to the serial numbering sequence normally used. He stated that some revolvers with special finish were made up in batches and were numbered starting at 1 to the end of the lot. He further stated, “This practice was also used in postwar production of other Remington revolvers to identify special orders to dealers.” I suspect your revolver was one of several in a special order, possibly with a shorter the barrel, which were so numbered.

Hi Bill
I have read that awsome book by Mr. Ware.
“This practice was also used in postwar production of other Remington revolvers to identify special orders to dealers.” I missunderstod this I guess (english is not my native language), thinking this only was for the model 75. I better read that section again. Have you seen any other Navys with low serial?
Thanks a lot for the reply.
Still interested in information of other low serial NMN's out there.
