SMALL Rolling Block Action
SMALL Rolling Block Action
I just purchased a Remington Rolling Block action in VERY good condition. It is the action only so I need some information on it for identification. It is a takedown with slip in barrel. The lever is on the right side. The rear of the action is squared off with a small cylindrical boss which is tapped in the center ,I assume for a stock throughbolt. No rear tangs at all. The rear of action is cross grooved as if you would tap the stock firmly against it and pull up throughbolt and this would keep stock from twisting. It appears to have been a .22 rimfire, and pin and extractor are in good condition. Absolutely zip, nada,NO markings on action. About 80% oriiginal blue showing. Beautiful condition. I'm going to rebarrel to .22LR. Need to know what model it is and any information as to where I might find a stock or a semi inlet to fit. I assume the forearm simply attaches to the barrel with a screw into barrel and an escutcheon in the forearm. Any information or where I might go to find information would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure what you have, but the #4 action has an upper tang. The butt stock is inletted for the upper tang and also is shaped to fit into a circular hole in the rear of the action below the tang. The forearm also fits into a similar hole in the front of the action. There was a French rolling block that was a very close copy of the Remington. I had a hammer and breach block out of one and it could have been fit into one of my #4's with some minor machining. I don't know if they had a tang or not. Remington also made a #6 action. This was slimmer than the #4 and again, I don't know if they had a tang or not.
Hope some of this rambling is useful. Sorry I couldn't be a better help.

Thank you very much for your replys. I frankly don't have any idea what this action is. The rolling block and hammer are on pivots that are in fact screws. It does not have the keeper that the larger ones have to hold pins in. The trigger guard is a part of the frame and not removable. The rear of frame has a round boss that protrudes about 1/2" and is round and is tapped for a throughbolt. It (the round boss) is held in the frame by a cross pin. Barrel is a slip fit that is retained via a crosspin that is relieved on one side for takedown. The pin has a lever on the right end outside the frame and there is a small hole below the crosspin that I assume had a stop for the takedown lever. The takedown pin is threaded into the frame and it is a left hand thread. Extractor/ejector is a half circle piece below the firing pin hole. Everything appears to be for a 22 rimfire although I haven't measured anything. If it is not for a .22 it is definitely no larger than a .25. Action is not pitted or has any blemishes. All edges are sharp. I'm going to barrel it for .22LR and it should make a nice plinker for a child or woman. In fact I might put a good scope on it and stock it for myself.
