Serial #404296
It is not markeked model 12-A,B,C etc
The odd part is the rear sight and stock.
The rear sight is a true buckhorn type sight and did not have the side slide elevation wedge. The wedge is missing but you can see there is no wear on the side of the barrel, only under the sight slot. It does have a Lyman rear peep sight, the same one I have seen before on some factory models.
The stock has a beautiful piece of feathered/crotch walnut not the usual straight grain stock. It has the curved metal butt plate stamped UMC Remington. It also has a very nice sling swivel stud. Another oddity is the grip cap and spacer. The spacer is red rubber?,that has turned hard and gotten "sqished" out for a lack of a better description. The grip cap is black/dark brown with "Remington UMC" and a center screw.
The front handguard looks like the same as most model 12's, but it does have a bit more figure and the screws do not have a lock screw holding them in.
The front sight base is a little wider then usual, and has a white turned slight yellow plastic?,ivory?, bone? instead of the usual brass front dot.
I have heard have Remington did some custom order models, is this one?
I love the little model 12 and have collected a few over the years but never one like this. Where can I get more info on this model and its variations.
The bluing is about 80%, none of the screw heads are messed up, no pitting in the barrel, nice bright bore after cleaning. Other then the usual wear no major scratches to the metal and only a few small handling marks to the wood. At $325 I hope I didn't get burned. Of course as all gun nuts know personal value is up to the owner. With the wood on this one I may have paid a bit more.

Any extra info would be great.
