Model 17 Schematic or Part Help

I just bought another Model 17 (previously bought one for my daughter and wanted one for me). It is in great shape except it is missing a screw on the left side of the receiver near the top front. The screw seems to have no purpose but want to get it in there before I go shooting.

I have looked at what schematics I could find (Steve's Pages, Numrich, etc), but none have the part identified.

I took it to an old gunsmith and he said he had only seen one of them (Model 17) before. He guessed it might be the plug screw but I want some validation before I ordered the screw. It is less than $5 but don't want to order it if it isn't the part...

Anyone have any ideas? Pheasant season starts 10 days and I would like to take the old gal out.
