Regarding the manufacture date, based on the serial number, it was sometime after March of 1928.....which is the date code on mine which has a serial number of 7290xx.
With regard to the finish....... I've always liked Tru-Oil. I've used it on virtually all of the stocks I've refinished over the decades. But, then, I don't worry about "originality".

Be sure to check the lower "flat" further down on the left side of the barrel, next to the magazine tube/slide assembly and just in front of the receiver. That's where mine is and I need to use a magnifying glass and flashlight to read it.kbota wrote:Thank you Wulfman. I wonder why it does not have a date code stamped on the barrel?

Re: Model 12 C
It sounds like the serial #s have been ground off. It should be in front of the trigger guard and on the flat in the receiver. Rem stamped on both places so one could be certain he/she was not mixing parts from different rifles.
