I'm looking at a very crisp model 1875 Remington revolver that has no caliber markings on it. I have looked at the cylinder and there doesn't appear to be the shoulders you would see on a 44-40 cylinder. It looks bigger than a 44 russian/American. No caliber markings on the frame or grips. Am I looking at a 45 Colt?
Any information you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks
Model 1875 caliber markings
Re: Model 1875 caliber markings
The only reference I can remember about .45 Cal is the approx 1000 sold to the Mexican Government. Look at the back of the cylinder, some had .45 stamped. Between 1879 and 1889 Mexico purchased "Improved Army" revolvers in .45 cal and were nichel-plated and marked by the Gov. RM or R de M. in several places....Jim

I was always told if you could put a nickel between the back of the cylinder and the frame it's a 45.
