Did you check the barrel code?

You have a serial # above what Rem records show, but that's not unusual for the M/241. Yours was probably made in or near 1951.

That would be 1951. From what I can tell, there's nothing wrong or mis-stamped on your rifle. Rem simply made higher serial # rifles on several of their models than their records show. Several other M/241s have been examined with #s above 132,000.

There was one oddity on the M/241 serial #s though. In the 60,000 range Rem found that they had duplicate serial #s stamped on 200 rifles. The number were stamped, then somehow the numbering machine cycled back and stamped 200 more with the same #s. Since Serial #s weren't required then, Rem let them go rather than buff them out and restamp them. The buffing (or grinding) would have weakened the receiver and not looked very good. If someone ended up with two M/241s with the same serial # I would imagine that would warrant a premium...
