NEW MODEL ARMY 44

Post by gastrap »

I just purchased a 90+ percent New Model 44 Army Remington revolver. I know from reading the threads on this forum that it might be possible to identify the manufacture date and contract this spectacular piece was purchased on. the serial number is 69713. It has a nice clear Porter Giles cartouche on the left grip and single letter inspector stamps liberally over the exterior. 90+ percent blue, what appears to be light fouling in a couple of grooves in the shiny bore, no rust in chambers, nipples clean and open. There are a few normal dings in the grips. A tiny "P" is on the bottom of the left grip and nail head marks and a crack on the right grip. The gun looks either unissued, or stolen by an AWOL trooper within a week of issue. I'm not a good photographer so forgive the quality. What appears to be rust is something to do with the flash.
Thanks for any info.
