16-gauge Model 11

Post by Researcher »

The Model 11 was first introduced in 16-gauge in the early 1930s. The first catalogue I have that shows the Model 11 in 16-gauge is probably about 1932 or 3. The catalogue introduces the Model 32 over-under and the Model 31 pump in 12-gauge only, but does not have any DuPont markings. Under the Model 11 that catalogue says "The 16-gauge model is bored especially for 2 3/4 inch shells and the new 16-gauge Auto Express shell has been developed for use in this model as well as the Sportsman."

My 16 ga Model 12, supposedly from 1931 ( an M serial #) is chambered for either 2.5 or 2 9/16ths, hard to tell the difference. I hand-load 2.5 inch shells for it (see Ballistic Products for great deals/info).

I forsook my usual old Ansley H. Fox bird gun this week. My 1938-vintage 16-gauge Remington Sportsman came out of the safe this week. I went 24 at Skeet with it yesterday, so today I took it afield. First Rooster on a great Skitso point was bang, bang, bang!! I did hang a leg on the second bang, but he was still going for the next county as he went out of sight. After that little lesson that the Sportsman has a bit more drop then my old meat-in-the-pot A-Grade Fox things picked up. How do you guys get a dog to pose. Skitso is a lot prettier Setter then this picture shows.
