Does the firing pin move freely in the channel in the bolt? You should be able to push it out the front of the bolt with your finger pretty easily.
Is the bolt going far enough forward that the locking block is moving up and fully engaging the locking slot in the barrel extension? This will also block the firing pin if it isn't. Usual cause if it isn't locking up is a stuck gas piston or one that has been installed in reverse order keeping the action sleeve to the rear slightly.

No, stupid would have been forcing things and screwing up the gun. I have asked many questions about motorcycling since getting back into it after a 30 year absence. Some may not have been genius grade, but the answers were quite helpful.
