760 date code problem
Re: 760 date code problem
The second and third marks must be the date code. Are you sure the is no relevance to a letter? Sometimes they were lax is stamping with good pressure, but you rarely find it in later models. My guess is if you look hard, something will be there.
Re: 760 date code problem
Although not as prevelant as with shotguns, I have seen and owned 760 rifles which I purchased that were rebarrelled - both by me and by Remington.
The bottom line is - you know when it was made so who cares...
The kicker is to look at the serial number..
I tried to start a post where people could put down their serial number and date of manufacture - but no one wanted to play with me.
So the bottom line is - if you want, you can go through the log Remington kept with the serial numbers and the dates of manufacture yourself and look it up.
Then again, if the rifle sold new for less then $150.00 -- it still isn't worth more then $500.00 today - other then sentimental value..
If it was a Winchester Model 70 or a Winchester Model 88 or a collectable Winchester model lever action - you might have a problem.. But a plain old Remington 760 - psft - were made by the thousands and were not all that valueable new/ used / or NIB...
Shoot it, hunt with it or collect it - it still doesn't change it's value.
