The date code AN equates to A= March, N = 1922. A three digit serial number would be a pretty early gun. Unfortunately, page 64 which would be the first page of Model 17 production is missing from the old between the wars factory ledger, page 65 begins with January 19, 1926, when they had reached serial number 35637. BO seems to be a Remington in house inventory code for the Model 17.

You may be able to get a Model 17 instruction manual from Remington, or find an original or reproduction on ebay. Here is the cutaway from the 1940 Remington parts catalogue --

and an updated 1946 parts list.

Looks like you have a nice old Model 17. Just a gentle cleaning and lubrication should be all it needs. Remember, first do no harm!!

Interesting that the butt plate shown in the parts list is a Remington - UMC style. The company name changed from Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. to Remington Arms Co., Inc. before the Model 17 was introduced. What is the company name on the barrel of your gun?
