Hi, I am new to this forum. I have a Remington single shot rifle that has been in my family since day one. I am the third generation owner.
The barrel has "Model 33" on it. Is this an NRA Junior or a smoothbore??
There appears to be faint rifleing in the barrel.
Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Please help identify.

Rat:
The Model 33 was Remington's first bolt action rifle. A total of 263,552 were made between July 1931 and November 1935. There are several variations. The main two include the TYPE 1, with no grasping groove in the fore-end, and the TYPE 2 with grasping grooves. Unless your rifle is stamped SMOOTH BORE or is stamped NRA JUNIOR on the barrel you have a standard Model 33. Remington did also make a Model 33 P with a Lyman 55R peep sight.
Enjoy your heirloom...

Thanks John. My rifle was made in April, 1935. My Dad was 14 then. He, his brother, his cousin and my self all learned to shoot with this gun.
I have always liked it. If I can see it, I can hit it. It has always been dead on accurate. Other than the blueing wearing off it is in excellent shape.
It will remain in the family and be passed on to my nephew some day. I'm not done playing with it yet.
