Lets see if I got this wrong and someone can straighten me out.
"A" prefix is first half of 70's and XZ is Dec 1975.

I'm kinda wondering if the barrel code might be "X O", which would be a date of Dec. 1977.
The "A" prefix covers most of the last half of the 1970s.
Another reason for my thought is that the serial number is close to one that I have with a barrel code of March 1978 and serial number of A6589XXX. (I realize that is NOT always a determining factor.)
That stock style is also much like the ones from that time period (very late '70s), and I'm thinking it might have come from the Custom Shop (rosewood fore end tip and grip cap).
The "Suggested Retail Price" in the 1977 catalog was $450.00.
I also happen to have one in .375 H&H that came from the Custom Shop in 1989 with a "C" serial number prefix.......that looks a whole lot like the one pictured here.

I also agree on the Dec '77 and the custom shop input. Actions sometimes kick around the custom shop a while before getting utilized and as they are already serial numbered, they throw off the general time line. Are there any other stampings on the barrel other than what you show near the receiver? The caliber designation looks "custom shop" to me but have not had much experience in these rifles or the larger calibers.

Yes, it is a Model 700 BDL Safari grade with a rosewood fore end tip and grip cap, hinged floor plate and Monte Carlo walnut stock.
The two calibers, .375 H&H Mag. and .458 Win. Mag., were the only two "Safari" chamberings that were available at the time yours was made.
All Safari models came with open/iron sites on them. They also had the two stock pins because of the heavy recoil.
Yours was built in December 1977.
All Safari models came from the Custom Shop because they had more attention (fit and finish) given to them.
The 9 lb. weight is approximately correct and could depend on wood density. It's also got a heavy barrel to help lessen the recoil.
Estimated values are NOT given on the forum for a number of reasons.
It all comes down to what a person is asking and/or what a buyer is willing to pay for it.
I also found the following listing on one of the auction sites. I would NEVER use Cabela's pricing as a guide. They tend to be waaaaay overpriced.

Hope that answers your questions.
