After several days of trying to log into this RSA site, I have given up and registered again, not knowing why?? But anyway, I originally posted this WTB and have reached the end of my search with a lot more than I had hoped for. I ended up with the best there is in my opinion.......this 1894 EEO 16 gauge.

What exactly does that mean?only one that I could find with the barrels still mostly intact.

Of the two 16 gauge EEO grades in Charles Semmer's book, I located both of them. Unfortunately the 16 gauge shown on pages 190,191 (serial # 110475) no longer has the original factory barrels. Barrels on it now are from an A or B grade with top rib matting filed off smooth the entire length.......what a bummer! My EEO which is on pages 192 thru 195 still has the original factory barrels, but they have been re-rust blued at some time in their past or "mostly intact". So, from the information that I have gathered since my search began, I have the only 16 gauge EE grade with Ordnance barrels of all the located or accounted for 1894 E grades.Researcher wrote:Wonderful Remington double. Has anyone found another DEO-Grade 16-gauge? Am I still holding the only one to surface?

Dave,
I was told of a high condition 10 ga that exists.
I do not feel right expounding on it, but you might "fish" a little on the Meridan site and get some feedback.

I just found this thread. The 16 GA EE you mentioned that no longer had its original barrels was in my possession around 30 years or more ago. I received it in a trade with a dealer in Tennessee. During the 3 day inspection I noticed that the barrels had been refinished poorly. If I looked down the outside of the barrels there were obvious ripples along the barrels from over usage of a buffing wheel. At that time it still had its original Ordnance Steel barrels. I thought about it but decided to send it back in spite of the wonderful engraving on it. I already had and still have a 12 GA EEO. I assume that the barrels were changed out because of the poor refinish job. I later purchased a set of EEO barrels made with Krupp steel in 1910 that could have be fitted to the one I sent back.

Finding a Remington 1894 high grade in "unmessed with" condition is right up there close to impossible. Few were manufactured and the long length of time that has passed since they were made makes it difficult to find a good one. There are other good ones out there, but you just about have to wait until the current owner enters into poor health or dies before you'll see one. I have searched for years and in just the past twelve months have seen at least five D or E grades offered for sale at auction or other internet listings. All have either replaced stocks or altered and/or replaced barrels. I remain grateful that I found the one 16 E grade that I own.

12 gauge EE have sold at $18,000 to $20,000 in good condition
16 gauge EE have sold at $22,000 to $28,000 in good condition
12 gauge DE have sold at $8,000 to $12,000 in good condition
16 gauge DE have sold at $10,000 to 16,000 in good condition
