I will usually take mine apart - just partway, I don't take out any pins that require driving them out - and then I go outside and blast it good with RemOil and shake out the excess. Then I take a shaving brush (yes they are still available) and work the bristles in everywhere and then wipe it on a paper towel and repeat several times. Doing that yearly has been working with 1100s and 870s for 49 years with no issues. About every 5 years when i used to shoot a lot and dirty powder I would pull it down further and clean out the spring sockets with a Q-Tip too.
I used to use WD-40, but RemOil is a better lubricant. And before someone starts in on WD-40 I will add that it is a solvent for itself, so if you don't leave it soaking wet; no residue build-up.
Be careful of any solvent other than denatured alcohol with any plastic parts.
Good luck.

If you have any grease on it and go out in cold weather expect issues. If you don't have one, go to www.remington.com and download a manual. After the mandatory 10 pages of "Don't shoot your foot off" there is some good info in there.

I lived in Ontario for a couple of years, and I have chased waterfowl in Manitoba some. Yes, it do get cold up there. I have a '76 Wingmaster Magnum and had a blast with it in Netley Marsh. One day I did not miss a duck. Enjoy yours in good health.
