I believe it's a second year production 1913, someone will correct me if I'm wrong ;)
Check the Service/Parts link http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/service/ for places listing the 14

The carbines are 18", I assume that's standard. By the way there's a small article on a 14 online here: http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/journals/M14Rifle

Hi!
Yep, you have a first year production gun that should have a "wheel sight" on it and in the caliber that was the most popular. You may or may not know this but the .30 Remington Cartridge is identical to a .30-30 Winchester EXCEPT it is rimless......they are not interchangable but use identical reloading data.

The bakelite buttplates were discontinued after about a year and a half of production, they do become brittle, crack easily, and few survive intact.
There is a couple of folks that make repros of that buttplate or you can find a steel shotgun plate as a replacement, they have the same configuration but can be costly, and are hard to find.

I buy my repros which are darn near a "spot on" match for the originals from Vintage Gun Grips, Inc., 1544 Seminola Blvd., Suite 136, Casselberry, FL 32707............Request Item 12a.......Yes, that is 12a!!! You will of course need to take it to someone familiar with fitting plastic butt plates (they need to be heated for the proper configuration) and trimmed around the edge. The last time I purchased a plate from them it was $17.

The steel shotgun plate which is the most common for these rifles will run you about $50 when you can find them BUT because the wood has worn or shrunk it probably will not give you a good fit...........I would suggest the repro plastic one and have it fit, the screw holes will line up nicely.

Vintage Gun Grips do have a website, you can order there, or give them a call. They have always been easy to deal with and as a bonus you can get the plate in colors...........I mean like Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, and a number of others but then I'm a purist and prefer the black. I'm not kidding about the colors, don't know who would want one but they tell me they sell a lot of them.

Hope this is helpful!

My bad, they only went to serial 4943 in 1912 and ended 1913 at 21363 so yours would "most likely" have been early second year production.

Hope that clarifies the situation but in my defense, the gun was made during the first 12 months of production.........LOL!! Sorry about the confusion.
