I just bought a 870 CT, mfgered in April 1981...need some advice from someone who has owned one of these rare variants.
My gun does not have a safety..did Remington build these w/o a safety or is this a Timney trigger group?
This gun was shot less than 100 times and has been a safe queen for 30 years. I have completely disassembled it, cleaned it, sprayed the gas system with Rem Dry Lube, everything looks good, any other cleaning instructions?
How about the O ring..anybody have a source..I'm sure this is long ago discontinued.
Bottom line who would ever believe a single shot, gas recoil reduction, pump shotgun that has beautiful wood and smacks targets?
Remington 870 Competition Trap
Re: Remington 870 Competition Trap
The gas recoil reduction system equipped 870 was basically an 1100 gas system added to a Wingmaster to reduce recoil. They worked fine, but the switch to over and unders was well underway, and you know what slaves to fashion people are. I am almost positive Remington had a safety on it from the factory. Almost all the parts are still available, because the 1100 and the 870 are still in production. The 'O' rings - standard 12 gauge 1100 size - are available on eBay for about $6 for 4 delivered, and that's about 3 lifetime's supply if you are careful disassembling the gun when you clean it.
A spray and wipe with WD-40 and later in life Rem-Oil has kept my 1100s running fine for 49 years. Not much for dri lubes.

What could have happened... did.

Virginian...are sure the 870 CT uses the same O ring as the 1100?
Re: Remington 870 Competition Trap
Almost positive. It has been a while. They made the 870 Competition by combining it with 1100 parts as best I remember. Mag tubes were always the same size.gunsnrods wrote:Virginian wrote:The gas recoil reduction system equipped 870 was basically an 1100 gas system added to a Wingmaster to reduce recoil.
