Model 1100 serial numbers

Hello. Did Remington start the serial numbers for the 1100 with number 1001?

I do not know. Neither does Remington. I do know they started below 10,000, because I have had one and seen another, but alas Remington says those guns do not exist. And, for the first time, recently I have seen a Remington factory letter verifying that an 1100 Ducks Unlimited model was a "dinner gun", when in fact it was not, it was a commercial model. I wouldn't put too much stock in Remington's historical accuracy anymore if I had money riding on it.

The 1100 I have was purchased in 1963, and I have the original receipt. My number is below 2000, and I remember reading somewhere that the numbers started at 1001, but I can't seem to locate that info. I called Remington and they told me the earliest number they show is 49133 from 1964. So they weren't much help! It's a shame they don't have better records than that! Thanks for your response.

Well, I just found an article written by Jack Heath which states that "Model 1100 serial numbers started with the number 1001." This must have been what I read years ago. It was from one of the RSA journals.

I remember reading that somewhere too, but I can't recall where, but it wasn't there. Be nice to know for sure wouldn't it? Be sure to keep your steel "V" ring safe.
