New Model Pocket
You apparently have one of the first pocket models that was made probably in late 1865 or early1866. These first models were brass framed usually silver plated. The very first few had an Iron trigger sheath and then they switched to a Brass trigger sheath. We don't evaluate guns since we can't physically handle them. The first models are scarce and I would look up the value in THE BLUE BOOK OF GUN VALVES. Jay Huber RSA
All that I have seen were plated but i can't say if they were all done that way. I always check under the grips for reminisce of silver. The 1870 catalog called for extra money for plating but they were offering steel blued guns then as the standard. He 1866 price sheet calls for $1.00 extra for plating so I must assume that the standard was not plated. Jay Huber RSA
Your gun has what we call a spur trigger. It doesn't have the usual trigger guard. The metal sheath that the trigger is mounted in, is what I am referring too. It can be removed by unscrewing the screw in front of the trigger. By the way you should find the gun serial number imprinted on the tab at the other end of the sheath. These sheaths were first made of steel then brass and back to steel as the guns were made and changed to cartridge as they went along. Sometimes the sheath was plated with silver or nickel in the later 70's. Jay
