In the world today almost nothing is fair!
Here is a suggestion, how about you find a suitable replacement on an auction site, they pay for it and in turn they get to keep the damaged one.
The magazine ring can be made right with little effort, there are replacement butt plates that can be fit to the rifle, and you can find replacement fore ends without too much difficulty. Buttplates (repro) are about $20 deld., fore ends will run you about $50 and probably cost you $100 to have them both fit to the gun by a decent "stock man" if that gives you any guideline.
Too bad, nice old rifle!

I would suggest that in the future , you take your vintage firearms to a real gun shop and not a big box store , staffed by minimum wage morons ! You have some culpability here too , it's just not going to cost you anything .

Me thinks you were a little hard on him, but a real gun shop is certainly a better plan if there's one nearby.
I also am offended by your "Minimum wage moron" comment. He made a careless mistake & probably learned from it. At least he is willing to work for minimum wage...
I started working before there was a minimum wage. I used it as an opportunity to learn and get progressively better jobs. What was your first job and were you very good at it when you started??? I made some dumb mistakes. It must be you didn't...

A lot of the minimum wage what you call morons are someone's kids. You have to stand up and be proud of them because they are taking the responsibility to have a job. The morons are the people that are to lazy to get a job and look for a hand out.

Looks like it was a school day all around ! I started working on a dairy farm when I was 12 years old , for $.50 a day plus lunch . In the summer these days were 12 hours long . Morons do breed and that's a sad fact , made all the sadder by most of them being Liberals . That young man that couldn't zip a gun case should be commended for having a job ? I grew up in a world where working your a$$ off was a common and expected thing . You know , when you didn't always make the team just because you showed up , and learned to handle rejection . When , if you had a job you actually had to do it to the best of your ability . Mistakes were allowed , but don't make the same one twice ! I spent my working life in the construction trades , and the Military where someone elses mistake can kill you . I'm sorry if I hurt anyones feelings , I'm just a mean old hardass , with a big heart . I have several firearms over a century old and I'm real picky about who handles them .
