700 BDL dates of manufacture
I'm intetesterd in restoring my lost collection of firearms. I am looking for a model 700 BDL in 243 made in 1966 thru 1968. In looking over the dates of manufacture codes I notice the codes repeat themselves from the late 1960's and again in the late 1990's How can I tell the difference between the dates????? Thanks
Re: 700 BDL dates of manufacture
I'll start things off by saying there should be no letter before the serial number. Checkering will be different. That 2 of about ten differences. Get John Lacy's excellent book on the "Remington 700". Then you will know all you need and soon be telling us stuff!
Don't see one on eBay right now but you can get one from the home page here but only if your rich! Wait for eBay or check elsewhere.
Re: 700 BDL dates of manufacture
Upon further research on your topic, it looks like your looking for a serial number that ranges from around 190000 to 387347. After that, the serial numbers have 7 digits starting in late Nov. 1968 beginning at 6200000. You are also looking for a rifle without the so-called magazine cut out (eliminated beginning of '66) and it should likely have a 2 piece sear under the bolt. It also should have checkering behind the action on the top of the pistol grip area unless it is a later '68 build. Should help narrow things down for you.
Still nothing on eBay for John Lacy's book . Did you set up an auto notification if one pops up?
