Model 10 production date

Post by cpatnode120 »

Just acquired a model 10 with a 4 digit serial number starting with U 9xxx. Anyone know the production date of this shotgun? Pretty clean but needs a butt plate ad it had a slip on recoil pad.

Thanks, Charlie

My records indicate gun was made in 1907, first year of production. Check on Ebay under "REMINGTON GUN PARTS" and you might find a butt plate for it. Regards Jay Huber

I thought it might be a first year due to the low number but wanted to be sure. It's actually in nice condition for being so old. Nice patina, no rust.

Model 10

If your gun says Model 10 on it, it would be from 1911 or later. Prior to that it was called the Remington Repeating Shotgun. The letter U was the inventory code for those bottom ejecting 12-gauge shotguns, just like P was the inventory letter for the Model 1894 and Q for the Model 1900 doubles. Also up thru 1910 the company name was Remington Arms Company. In 1911 it became Remington Arms Union Metalic Cartridge Co., Inc., then long about 1920 it became Remington Arms Co., Inc.
