Yep, some help with 572 Fieldmaster Year of Manufacture?

Post by Recoil Rob »

It's a nice, high condition, smooth stocked 572 with a grooved receiver. The serial number on the left side of the receiver is 1490019. The left side of the barrel breech is stamped J A T.

Not sure about the J, does the A T signify March of 1970? Is the serial number any help?

thanks,

Rob

I want to say March, 1990! Is there a letter in front of the serial number? Is there 3 or 4 figures/symbols on the left side of the barrel? 1970 means second figure should be a "T".

NO letter before the serial number, I typed incorrectly above, it's a, J A T on the left barrel breech area. There is a tiny X on the barrel right at the barrel receiver junction but that looks like an assembly mark, not the date code.

The J is what's throwing me off. I'm pretty sure the gun is older than 1990 since I bought it from an oldtimer in 1992.

thanks,

J---final inspection

A---month of birth, in your case March

T---year of birth, in your case 1970

X---assembler mark

Actually :? , looking back at my first response to you, I don't have a clue  how I came up with 1990, unless you edited your first posting!?!
