That is something I wouldn't worry about. My Father had a Parker Bros. VH-Grade with the opposite problem. You could open it far enough to remove the empties and reload without getting it cocked. Next Duck that came by you were out of luck. After I inherited the gun I had Keith Kearcher, in Bend, Oregon, fix it

deja vu,Does both barrels fire the way they should? If they don't you probaly have a busted main spring also may still fire check the fired primer depth of both barrels I have seen similar
problem the small piece of spring gets in way.Look at the main spring sticking out the end of receiver they should look the same even.Hopes this helps.
