I recently traded a hangun for this Remington Model 700 in .270 winchester. The rifle looks barely shot. In excellent condition. However, it looks like the previous owner jerry rigged the front sight. I dont see any screw holes to unscrew and remove the sight at all. It looks to me like he filled the only hole in with some sort of weld compound and placed a peg in the compound and let it harden. Well, the peg broke off, so I ended up filing it down. I would like to remove the front sight but I dont see any way possible. It looks like he filled in the only screw hole. I am at school at the moment but will post pics later. In the meantime, is there any help available to get this front sight removed?
Thanks in advance.
Remington Model 700...front sight question/help
The internet is not the place to find help for this particular problem. You are in need of a gunsmith's services. The problem you have indicated needs to be observed firsthand. I will say that you may find a second screw under the dovetailed post. Again, it is very hard to come up with a solution without seeing the problem. Best of luck
There is a second place for a screw under the dove tail.
Chances are if you try to push the blade out without the proper tool you will brake the screw off, assuming there is one in there. On the other hand, if the rear hole is aready messed up it won't matter unless you want to put iron sights back on it.
