Seeking Information on .44 Remington 1858 New Model Revolver

Post by macpuma »

I have recently acquired a 1858 .44 caliber New Model revolver, serial number 110702. I would like to learn more about it. It is well used with a military cartouche on the left wood grip. On the left side, there is a "W" above the top-most screw below the hammer, a "P" even with the barrel just forward of the barrel location, a "W" on the barrel, and a "G" on the takedown lever. On the right side, there is a "G" even with the barrel just forward of the barrel location and a "G" on the barrel. There is a "J" on the brass trigger guard and a "G" on the cylinder. The bottom of the wood left wood grip has a "J" on it. The bottom of the grip is also marked with either "N.O.L." or "74 N.Y." The wooden grips also have at least 25 notches and may have as many as 28 obviously arranged in groupings of from 1 to 4. Can anyone give me any additional information on this pistol?
