Remington Model 14
Remington Model 14
Just wondering what the C means that is stamped just above the serial number.
The Model 14 rifle was know as the "C" rifle while it was in the development stage. When the rifle went into production, it became known as the Model 14. The "C" was used to identify the serial number as belonging to A Model 14 rifle. This continued to around 1924 when the serial number was moved to the side of the receiver and the "C" was dropped. If you have any other questions concerning this, you can email me at shot1too@aol.com. Happy hunting.
This gun was originaly my great grandfathers. My dad has had it for as long as I can remember and I shot it for the first time a few days ago. It was originally a .30 caliber and somewhere in its past someone had it bored out to a .32 caliber. Eventually I would like to purchase a .30 caliber barrel and have it put on to bring it back to original. Replacing the barrel is far beyond my skills and it is quite expensive so for now I will just have to search for .32 caliber rounds. I found that right now it seems the only people that have them are buffaloarms.com anyway. The serial number is 13024 with this I was hoping that someone could tell me about when this rifle was manufactured.
According to the records I have, you rifle was made in 1913. I am surprised when you say the caliber of the gun was changed from 30 to 32. What caliber does the ammunition indicator (looks like a shell head) say? Was the barrel changed? Remember that the 30 Rem cartridge is no longer made. Good luck with your projects.
The caliber indicator says .30 but on the barrel the .30 is all scrached off and there is a .32 stamped just above it. My dad said that is grandfather had it bored out to a .32. I have found that .30 ammunition is easier to find then .32. That is why I am hoping to change it back...Numrich has .30 used barrel, just have to wait untill I get the money then hope they still have one.
