Remington model 14's
Re: Remington model 14's
Model 14s were available with an extra cost optional "steel rifle buttplate" for $1.50 beginning with the 1913-14 catalog. This buttplate was a full crescent shape with a top wrap. By 1918, the price for this option was $2.75. Around 1920-21, they began putting such stock-buttplate guns out just to use them up before introduction of the semi crescent buttplate with a bottom wrap that was used until the end of production in 1935. As to wheel sights, they were used on guns up to around 1921-22 and are found, occasionally, on guns made as late as 1933 production.

Hemphill nailed it for you but when it comes to variations the Model 14 leads the pack in that regards to the point where I keep telling folks "no two are identical". The amazing amount of internal & external variations make them unique and entertaining to collect, shoot, or repair.
