New to the society, and have a question... My brother called the other night and asked how to get the bolt out of his M660 .308. It's been a LONG time since I owned one, and wasn't sure, but told him I thought there was a lever at the left rear of the receiver along the side of the bolt that he could push down w/ a small screwdriver. He looked but didn't see anything.
He's four states away, doesn't have 'net access so I can't look at the thing, not even a picture. I did a search here but came up with nothing. Can someone help solve the problem? TIA.
M660 bolt removal
bolt removal
To remove the bolt on a 600 or 660 you must push the bolt retaining lever down. The lever is located between the bolt and the receiver on the left side as you thought. You have to slide a SMALL screw driver between the bolt and the receiver with the bolt open. It can be hard to do the first time but after you get it, you can see the lever better and see better how it works. Good luck.
Re: bolt removal
Thanks Dave! I thought that was it, but he looked during our phone conversation and couldn't see anything. I'll tell him to "look harder!" Also, I really appreciate the verification that I'm not losing it, as it's been at least thirty years since I had a 600 or 660. He's just plumb tickled w/ the rifle, as he uses it in deer blinds and finds it perfect for the job. Thanks again.
600 bolt
Your welcome. As far as seeing it goes, you can't really see the lever with the bolt in. It's a kind of feel as you go thing. I've been hunting with a 600 in 308 for 20 years and your brother is right, it is the ideal blind gun. I also have a 350 rem mag in 600. As you probably know, the recoil on that one is excessive so I don't shoot it much, but it's what I use on moose. It does a great job on them. So far they have fallen to the shot every time.
