Remington Model 1861 old model revolver converted to 38rf

Post by cody6 »

Hi,I recently acquired a Remington Model 1861 old model revolver, that at sometime in the past has been converted to 38rf.The pistol is in very good shape other than it has lost approx 75% of its finish. The pistols serial #is219xx.I'm interested in knowing the following
-Would this revolver be a civil war issue?
-Any idea when the conversion was done & by whom?
-The markings on the barrel are fairly faint, can make out the words Remington,1861,Ilon N.Y.
-The serial number is very clear #219xx
-The letter A is stamped on the forpart of the triggerguard
-The conversion has no loading gate, but the loading lever & rammer are intact & functional-appears to be a very professional job
-There is a faint cartoche on the left side grip
-There is traces of silver plating? on the backstrap
-Any info you could provide me on this revolver would be apprciated :) Cody
