Opinions on "WalMart" 700ADL

Post by laf_shooter »

Does anybody have an opinion on the current ( 3/2011) "WalMart" 700ADL with synt. stock and scope? Local stores are pricing at $397.00 + tax. Just find that hard to believe. These units are 30-06 caliber.

I don't know about the scope, but for that price, the rifle itself would be worth that. I haven't checked the prices at Wally World lately.......didn't know they were selling them that cheap.

That's the phone quote I got from the local store. Haven't had time to look in person, might be a clearence sale type of thing. If you go to Wally,s website it's kinda hard to find but there is a "firearms catalog" link in the hunting supplies page. They list Remington, Savage, Marlin, Stevens, Taki (not sure spelling is right), Weatherby, and some others that can be ordered. Notice indicates you have to go to a retail store and order in person and place a deposit. Online catalog does not list prices so I guess its a surprise when you order kind of deal. Most likely it allows the Dept Manager to wheel and deal final price. Anyway I was shocked when they told me the prices. There were also some CDL models in stock but they were out of my budget range for now.

They told you correctly (price on 700ADL).
I was in the local Wally World today and checked. That's the tag price on them......$397.00 (with scope). The two they had in the cabinet were a .243 and a .270. They also had some Savage models for the same price. I didn't think to ask them if they had other calibers back in their storage area, but then I really don't "need" any more guns. I can't find time to shoot what I've got.

So after looking at the rifles they had do they look up to Remington's normal standards? Fit and finish comparable to other Remingtons you have seen or had? My only experience with Remington is a used 7400 and I'm not happy with the grouping of this rifle. Many tell me the Semi-Auto does not reflect the normal quality of Remington's other guns. I hope not. I have been able to make some improvements but a 4 shot group still remains almost 3" and it never maintains the same POI form one group to the next. I've tried two different scopes that performed very well on other guns so I don't think its a problem with the scopes.

They look like this.......except they don't have a hinged floorplate, which is the main difference between the ADL and BDL models.:

Comparing a bolt action to a semi-auto is one of those "apples to oranges" comparisons. In my opinion, bolt actions are typically more accurate.

I don't own any "new" Remingtons......my newest is about 22 years old and came out of the Custom Shop. So, I can't comment on the quality of the ones in more recent years......but if I wanted one, I wouldn't hesitate to select one of these.
