Looks like it started it's life as an 1875, that's no 1890 web.

Certainly looks like a grip strap from a cap and ball.

I know they made one birdshead 1875, but this looks like a gunsmith special to me.

Its a 1875 or 1890 thats had the rear side of the grip strap altered grinded off to make its the shape it is.

That cross bolt center shaft holding screw thru the frame is not right either been added is my guess.
