Need input on 7mm Rolling Block
Hello...My first Remington Rolling Block is a bit of a mystery! I almost passed on it because of the lack of stamping. It is in 7mm..stamped on barrel, barrel approx. 28 1/2 inches long..has bayonette lug. The tang is stamped..Remington Arms Co.Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A. Pat'd Oct. 22nd, 1901. It is a two band rifle in a walnut stock..one small cartouche near trigger guard..III ? The rifle is stamped 376 on left side of upper and lower tang..this # is also stamped on inside of butt stock channel. The # 798 is stamped on upper right tang..on the side. The interesting thing is the condition..it is about 100% exterior..case hardening on reciever and bluing on hammer and block...the cocking spring is super strong. One draw back..the stock has a tung oil finish and I will knock the glare of with some gentle 0000 steel wool. Was this a South American contract rifle? I paid $475 for it and normally would have passed on a stock with incorrect finish..but the metal and bore are almost perfect. Thanks, Cone Ten

Forgot to mention..both of barrel bands are stamped "U". and there is a small RP proof on barrel near bayo lug. Thanks, Cone Ten
RE: 7 MM Rolling Block
The suspense is killing me..butt plate stamped inside to match stock #. Banded front sight. Ladder type rear sight graduated to 1900 yards ? Rear sight is located 4.5 inches in front of receiver. Cleaning rod present. Very slight ring on outside of muzzle end shows bayonette had been mounted at one time. Seems very military to me. Cone Ten
