Remington-Beal navy revolver

Post by Steven »

I recently purchased what was catalogued as a Remington navy revolver in an auction in England. After gathering information on the internet it appears that I have acquired a Remington-Beal navy revolver. It has a 7 3/8 inch barrel with no cut out in the frame exposing threads, there are no safety notches in the cylinder, it has a dove-tailed conical German silver fore-sight (which was described in the catalogue as being an old replacement!), the spur on the hammer is higher and the frame behind the hammer extends further back than later models and the configuration of the rifling would serve to unscrew the barrel.

Unfortunately, it seems that the cylinder pin and loading lever assembly is a recent replacement (the top of the loading lever has been filed bright). The pin has projections on both sides and the loading lever has the extended web of the later models. There is no visible lettering on the top of the barrel, it is fairly corroded/patinated overall, and the number on the underside of the barrel is obscured. I would very much like to return the revolver to its original state with original parts. However, I do not know how viable, or even desirable, this would be to achieve. I would be grateful to receive advice from anyone out there. Kind regards, Steven.

You have a tough one there. I know of no one that has the parts you require for the early Navy revolvers. Two suggestions. Watch Ebay for REMINGTON PISTOL PARTS. They sometimes come up with odd parts. I just saw New Model barrel go for $41.00. The other suggestion is watch the gun shows for a junker that might have the parts. Jay Huber RSA

niqash03 What does your post have to do with the topic? Go back to your hole in the desert if you have nothing to add.

Hi Steven,

Was the pistol described incorrectly? If so, you should be able to return it to he auction and get your money back.

The few parts you need will be hard to find and pricey.
Good luck in your search if you keep the pistol.
