"ODD" REMINGTON SCOREMASTER BBL MARKINGS

Post by JIMBOW »

I HAVE A REMINGTON MODEL 511 "SCOREMASTER" 22 RIFLE. IT WAS BOUGHT IN 1939. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE MAKING: "AK ANCHOR" STAMPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BARREL, CLOSE TO THE FRAME, NEAR THE WOOD MEANS. THE WORD ANCHOR IS NOT SPELLED OUT. IT LOOKS LIKE A MILITARY INSPECTOR'S MARK. I THINK IT MUST BE A NAVAL TRAINING RIFLE, THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE A STANDARD MODEL 511 OF THE PERIOD. I LIVE IN RHODE ISLAND AND IT MIGHT HAVE COME OUT OF ONE OF THE NEARBY NAVAL BASES BEFORE WW2. IT'S BEEN IN THE FAMILY SINCE 1939.

Your markings on the barrel of your 511 are as follows. "A" indicates the year of manufacture 1954. The "K" indicates May of that year. The Anchor stamp is a typical Remington proof mark used for years and indicates final inspection. It has nothing to do with the Navy. Regards Jay Huber RSA. huber7774@bellsouth.net

Jay, I think you have your letters backwards. AK would be March, 1941. I agree that the anchor is a proof or test mark.
