Transplanting a new 700 trigger assembly into a 721/722

Post by tsteiner1 »

I have just done a 700 trigger swap into a 721/722 rifle. The difference between them is the safety lever and the length of the trigger shoe. If you are using one of the new factory replacement trigger assemblys you will need to remove the safety lever from the assembly body and either heat the lever at its bend or as mine did it will break when trying to bend it, it is cast steel part, then it can be silver soldered back together and that heat will allow it to bend. It needs to clear the edge of the rear tang. The 700 tang is cut out to clear the lever, a tiny bit of wood removal might be necessary as the arc of the new safety is greater than the old one. Once the action is back into the stock you will find out that the trigger shoe is slightly longer and will hit the trigger gaurd when tightening the screws. You can reconture the bottom of the shoe with a file till there is enough clearance for the trigger to work. You will now have the upgraded trigger assembly that can be adjusted further. :D
