Remington 514 on swivel base

Post by 698baron »

ChuckD

I am new to the forum and I have a question about something that may fit in the catagory of "Remington Stuff" - at least I think this is a good place for it.

Did Remington ever produce a counter top advertising display for the Remington 514 in which they used an actual firearm?

I have come across a Remington model 514 .22 S/L/LR that is attached to a heavy metal swivel base which in-turn is mounted on a nice, large walnut base. There is a chain that is attached to the bottom of the barrel in front and to the walnut base. The chain restricts the rifle's movement from left to right to only a few of inches and it also restricts the up and down movement.

The gun is 31 1/4 inches in overall length and has all the usual Remington markings on the barrel. The barrel is marked O K 18 - as best as I can tell.

I thought that one of the historians might know what this might be? Does it have a value?

I have taken a couple of pictures of it, if someone wants to see it.

Thanks for any information. (If this question belongs in a different area, please tell me where to place it.)

Sorry to beat Chuck on this since this was his great addition to the forum, but I know he will have some input on it as well. From the description and not seeing the pictures it sounds like a gun mounted to a coin operated game. Please post the pictures. Does the gun seem like it would operate or is it modified in a way to keep it from firing like a normal rifle?

It sure sounds like the one used for the Chicago Coin shooting game as shown on page 260 of our book. If it's a "demilled" M/14 like the one used on the game it doesn't have a whole lot of value. I saw one at a gun show for $90 and it was still for sale at the end of the show.

I just tried to upload 2 pictures. I am not sure where they went or my message.

I will try again.

Thanks for your answers.

I think Billy & John have correctly identified your M-514.
If so, the front site probably goes through the barrel and the bolt is locked so it can't fire. The rifle didn't actually shoot cartridges. There were wires that were connected to the trigger, which closed a circuit.

Here is a link to ebay that shows the setup:

The rifle alone is just a curiosity. However, someone might want it for a wall hanger.
